I have been publishing science fiction and fantasy at the short story, novelette and novella lengths since 1997, receiving a Nebula Award, a Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award and three World Fantasy Awards. I have taught undergraduate writing since 1993. I attended Clarion West in 1994 and received my MFA in fiction writing from the University of Alabama in 2000. I have been a member of the SFWA board of directors since 2017. I embrace the growing diversity of our field, want to meet as many newcomers as I can, and will happily talk about old movies, weird history and folklore, Forteana and classic sff for hours, until someone intervenes.
